Sarasota Economy Turn-Around

June 16, 2008

When it comes to the Sarasota economy, we all know things have been a little down. However, economists all say that the worst is over. Florida economist Hank Fishkind puts it this way: ” It’s sort of like when you have a bad fever. You’ve broken the fever, but you don’t get better all of a sudden. It takes a while.” At the beginning of the year he said it might be about 24 months for the Sarasota economy to be fully recovered. Already, Sarasota’s tourism trade is getting a boost from the return of British and Canadian tourists, and airline traffic deplanements from the major airlines are up 17.5%. It is predicted that considering tourism, housing, and population growth, the 2008 snowbird season will be one of the strongest on record. From this point forward, local economic trendlines will be going nowhere but up.
