Townhomes; the next trend.

May 4, 2006

As land prices in Florida continue to rise and the high rise condominium market cools, the next big trend in real estate will be the townhome. With the population of Florida increasing by 1000 people per day, relocating baby boomers will look toward townhomes to fulfill the desire for traditional amenities such as garages, privacy and green space. Past trends have included villas for older retirees and condominiums for part time residents. Over the next decade the boomer generation will be moving into retirement en mass. Their retirement needs are different from that or their parents. This trend is apparent in the revitalization of Sarasota’s downtown. Boomers have been very interested in the active lifestyle of Sarasota’s downtown area with it’s cultural attractions and upscale shopping. Townhomes such as Library Mews and Palm Avenue Villas are much more appealing to today’s younger and more active retiree.
